Wow, these were some amazing photos, Michael! Bath is gorgeous. I've often heard that but have never seen photos to this extent. Thank you! A truly lovely place indeed.
Delicious photos are the best invitation. I’m in! Thanks for your entertaining historical musings. I would have eaten this up if my classes had been this lively.
Thank you for this post. Next month, we will be spending three weeks in England, Scotland and Ireland. Bath is on the list. You are quite a talented photographer.
I have a good friend in Bath and spent a lovely long weekend there a few years ago. One of my very first Substack essays was inspired by the Roman curse tablets I saw there. Thanks for the return visit!
I know nothing about Bath other than what I've read in Georgette Heyer Regencies (and a joke from THE GROOVE TUBE, "Thurthon Thithertonton, in Bath"), so this is a surprise as the Bath she described sounded much smaller and closer together than this looks....
Bath is fake! I love it. I saw a similar building with no windows in Savannah, GA recently and I'm wondering if that, too, is the city covering up something unsightly, lol. Thanks for taking us on these journeys! It's getting me excited to start traveling the world.
What a wonderful review of this city. My husband and I are visiting this fall and you’ve given us a great start at what choice we can make there- thank you for such a thorough review

Thank you for the kind words, Jeanine!
My brother went to university in Bath, so I used to visit often. Beautiful place and beautiful photos!
Thanks! And yes it is.

Thank you, Wendy!

Thank you very much! And have a wonderful time! Those are all great destinations.

Thanks for reading!
What a fun read, and what stunning photos.
Apparently the fan vaulting at Bath Abbey is some of England's finest.
I don't watch documentaries about British cathedrals when I'm going to bed, I swear.
😁😁😁
Lovely photos...and thoughts!
Where might I find these observations of Jane Austen should I want to read them myself?
Well…I’m afraid only here! I was having fun “channeling” Miss Austen myself!
You tricked me for a minute, too 😂😂
😎😎😎
😭😭😭
I feel cheated. El Divo would never have done this to me. Bring back El Divo now! 🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣 Oh trust me, El Divo is a tricky little cuss!
At least, I know what to expect with him. 🤣
Love the idea of Bath as a stage set. Self conscious flaneurs rejoice

My pleasure! Thanks for coming along!
Wow! Great post! I visited Bath on a day trip, but I suspected there was much more to experience!
Thanks! It would definitely be worth a return visit if you're ever in the neighborhood!
